We use a high pressure Krypton bulb providing ultra-bright white light at 6,500 candle power, the brightest light source available in a pocket otoscope. The Dr Mom Otoscope was designed with 2.2x magnification which gives you the most realistic look at the eardrum. We designed our otoscope with the same magnification used by Welch Allyn otoscopes. Some otoscope manufacturers  try to make up for an inferior light source by increasing magnification but this often leads to a distortion of normal eardrum anatomy.
